Gucci – A New Definition of Luxury
Guccio Gucci, born in 1881, nurtured the desire to combine the skilled Italian craftsmen with the sophisticated and typically English vision of luxury that he had been able to appreciate during his employment at the Savoy Hotel in London.
After working for the Franzi Company in Milan, he founded a leather goods company with a luggage store in Florence in 1921. In the 1930s, his gloves, belts, suitcases and trunks were the exclusive and ideal souvenir of Italy for the ladies of the beautiful international world.
Horse riding items, from which the iconic elements of the clamp and bracket in the 50 shots represented the right mix of detail accuracy and exquisite workmanship.
The autarkic years of the Fascist dictatorship were unscathed, when Gucci’s production had to fall back on hemp, on which the diamond, jute and linen motifs were woven, and the brand showed a strong rise, so much so that in 1938 the Roman boutique in Via Condotti was inaugurated.
