Mont Blanc was initially known as the Simplo Filler Pen Company when it was founded in Hamburg, Germany by a stationer, a banker, and an engineer in 1908. The upscale pens gained a following, which led to its name change in 1934 to its current mark, after one of its pens. Over time, the company has added leather goods, jewelry, and watches to its offerings. Beginning in the 1990s, boutiques began opening worldwide, and fragrances were introduced in 2001 in partnership with Inter Parfums. The company is a subsidiary of Richemont, owner of luxury goods brands such as Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier.
