Vetiver Oriental Perfume by Serge Lutens, Christopher Sheldrake is the nose behind this 2004 woodsy aroma by Serge Lutens. Vetiver Oriental is a powerful earthy fragrance that is daring in its unique scent pairings. The perfume opens with delicate top notes of iris; blooms into the heart notes of vetiver, Guaiac wood, and dark chocolate; and finally soothes into base notes of amber, sandalwood, labdanum, and musk.
Lutens was born in France in 1942 and started his career as a hair stylist before moving into cosmetics and photography. In the 1960s he joined Vogue magazine in Paris as a makeup artist and was commissioned to create his own line of cosmetics by Christian Dior in 1967. In the 1970s, LutensÕ focus turned towards photography, and he directed two short films that were screened at the Cannes Film Festival. It was not until 2000 that the artist launched a line of perfumes, many of which are niche fragrances, highly unique in their unusual compositions.
